{"id":2227,"date":"2019-07-05T08:15:09","date_gmt":"2019-07-04T22:45:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/?page_id=2227"},"modified":"2026-06-19T14:25:29","modified_gmt":"2026-06-19T04:55:29","slug":"stage-1-music-performance-ensemble","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/index.php\/stage-1-music-performance-ensemble\/","title":{"rendered":"STAGE 1 MUSIC ENSEMBLE PERFORMANCE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1>Stage 1 Music Ensemble Performance<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>LENGTH: <\/strong>Full Year<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SACE CREDITS:<\/strong> 10 credits (Delivered offline across the full year)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>RECOMMENDED BACKGROUND<\/strong>:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students must have previous experience in performing in an ensemble as well as have been receiving instrumental lessons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Content:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;More than music\u2014resilience, teamwork, identity.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perform, Rehearse and Create &#8211; Stage 1 Music Ensemble Performance is designed for students that have developed a commitment to one of the school ensembles and is all about collaboration, creativity, and connection.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students can choose from the following ensembles:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Concert Band 1 or 2&nbsp;<\/li><li>Stage Band<\/li><li>Orchestra<\/li><li>Vocal Ensemble<\/li><li>Percussion Ensemble<\/li><li>String Ensemble<\/li><li>Jazz Combo<\/li><li>Rock Band 1 or 2<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Students will learn practical performance skills on their chosen instrument within an ensemble to demonstrate their performance and musical literacy skills. In addition they will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Attend weekly instrumental\/vocal lessons with an accredited teacher and maintain regular instrumental\/vocal practice.<\/li><li>Participate in regular rehearsals and the performances of an ensemble&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It is suggested this course be taken in conjunction with Stage 1 Music wherever possible to maintain pathways to all the Stage 2 Music subjects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students will have instrumental lessons for the full year, available instruments for study are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Woodwind: <\/strong>Flute, Clarinet, Alto, Tenor Baritone Saxophone<\/li><li><strong>Brass: <\/strong>Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba<\/li><li><strong>Percussion: <\/strong>Drum Kit, Tuned and Untuned Percussion. Group lessons are free however, one-on-one lessons can be arranged via our private music instructor, cost is $37 per half hour lesson<\/li><li><strong>Bass Guitar: <\/strong>Group lessons are free however, one-on-one lessons can be arranged via our private music instructor, cost is $37 per half hour lesson<\/li><li><strong>Strings: <\/strong>Violin, Viola and Cello<\/li><li><strong>Voice: <\/strong>Contemporary<\/li><li><strong>Piano:<\/strong> Piano students are encouraged to learn a second instrument for ensemble performance one-on-one lessons can be arranged via our private music instructor, cost is $37 per half hour lesson<\/li><li><strong>Guitar<\/strong>: Classical, Electric and Acoustic Guitar (one-on-one lessons can be arranged via our Private Music Instructor, cost is $37 per half hour lesson)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Music provides authentic experiences for students to practise and demonstrate the Unley High School values of respect, excellence, diversity and community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pathways:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This subject prepares students for further study in music at a tertiary level and supports career pathways in performance, composition, music education, and the broader creative arts industry. <a href=\"https:\/\/able.adelaide.edu.au\/music\/study#our-study-areas\">Study | Elder Conservatorium of Music | University of Adelaide<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Assessment:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assessment at Stage 1 is school based. Students will be assessed against the SACE Stage 1 Music Performance Standards.
