Through studying a variety of oral, written, and multimodal texts, including literary texts, students develop an understanding of text structures and language features. Students explore the relationship between these structures and features and the context, purpose, and audience of texts. Information, ideas, and opinions in texts are identified and interpreted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Assessment<\/strong>: Students\u2019 performance will be determined according to the subject\u2019s Performance Standards, as outlined by the SACE Board. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes. Across two Semesters, students provide evidence of their learning through eight assessments. Each assessment type has a weighting of at least 20%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Assessment Type 1: Responding to Texts<\/em>: Students read and view a variety of texts and complete two written responses to texts and two oral responses to texts. At least two responses must be to literary texts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Assessment Type 2: Interactive Study<\/em>: Students complete\u00a0<em>both<\/em>\u00a0an interview\u00a0<em>and<\/em>\u00a0a discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Interview&nbsp;\u2013 Students (the interviewers) conduct an oral interview with one or more people about an issue or an aspect of cultural life.&nbsp;Students may then also present the results of their interview in a written report.<\/li><li>Discussion&nbsp;\u2013 Students choose an idea, opinion, or perspective that arises in at least two texts. Students individually present, explain, and discuss with their teacher and\/or a small group of students the idea, opinion, or perspective they have studied with reference to the texts.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u00a0Assessment Type 3: Language Study<\/em>: Students complete\u00a0<em>two<\/em>\u00a0oral, written, or multimodal applied language activities. For an applied language activity students identify and analyse the effectiveness of aspects of language used in a variety of\u00a0texts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Special Requirements<\/strong>: Students are required to meet the\u00a0<em>SACE Eligibility Requirements for EAL<\/em>\u00a0in order to enrol in this subject.
