{"id":344,"date":"2017-05-09T12:18:44","date_gmt":"2017-05-09T02:48:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/?page_id=344"},"modified":"2025-07-18T22:09:30","modified_gmt":"2025-07-18T12:39:30","slug":"year-9-chinese","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/index.php\/year-9-chinese\/","title":{"rendered":"Year 9 Chinese"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Level:\u00a0<\/strong>Year 9<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Length:\u00a0<\/strong>Full Year<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Please note:<\/em><\/strong><em> This subject is not suitable for students who are fluent native speakers of Chinese or who have recently arrived in Australia from Chinese-speaking communities.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Content:<\/strong><br><br>The Year 9 Chinese language program builds on the foundations established in Years 7 and 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is based on concepts identified in the Australian Curriculum and aims to develop students\u2019 knowledge, skills and understandings as described in the achievement standard for years 9 and 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>communication skills&nbsp;<\/li><li>literacy skills in Chinese (pinyin and some Chinese characters) and English&nbsp;<\/li><li>intercultural capabilities&nbsp;<\/li><li>understanding of, and respect for, diversity and difference, and openness to different experiences and perspectives&nbsp;<\/li><li>understanding and appreciation of how culture shapes world views and extends their understanding of themselves, their own heritage, values, culture and identity&nbsp;<\/li><li>critical and creative thinking.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Concepts studied <\/strong>in year 9 include: past, education and work, communication, entertainment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Assessment:<\/strong><br><br>Students\u2019 performance will be determined according to the achievement standard for Chinese years 9 and 10, as outlined in the Australian Curriculum: Languages. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The types of assessments include Text Analysis, Text Production, Interaction and Reflection.
