{"id":4233,"date":"2021-07-01T14:10:34","date_gmt":"2021-07-01T04:40:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/?page_id=4233"},"modified":"2026-06-29T19:43:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T10:13:10","slug":"year-7-greek-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/index.php\/year-7-greek-2\/","title":{"rendered":"YEAR 7 GREEK"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Length:&nbsp;<\/strong>Full year<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Year 7 Greek language program is based on concepts identified in the Australian Curriculum and aims to develop students\u2019 knowledge, skills and understandings as described in the achievement standard for years 7 and 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>communication skills&nbsp;<\/li><li>literacy skills in Greek and English&nbsp;<\/li><li>intercultural capabilities&nbsp;<\/li><li>understanding of, and respect for, diversity and difference, and openness to different experiences and perspectives&nbsp;<\/li><li>understanding and appreciation of how culture shapes world views and extends their understanding of themselves, their own heritage, values, culture and identity&nbsp;<\/li><li>critical and creative thinking.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Students develop these skills through the assessment types of Text Analysis (reading and listening), Text Production (writing), Interaction (speaking) and Reflection (in English), engaging with a range of authentic and contemporary Greek language texts and contexts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Concepts studied in year 7 include: identity, relationships, leisure, place, Greek mythology,, including national days of celebration and significant cultural traditions<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Incursion:<\/strong> Students studying Greek are also eligible to participate in the Hellenic Cup Indoor Soccer Tournament held in Semester 2. This inter-school competition is hosted on site by the UHS Greek Parents Committee and brings together students studying Greek language from schools across South Australia, providing opportunities to build connections, celebrate Greek language and culture, and engage with the wider Greek-speaking community. Participation supports students\u2019 intercultural understanding, teamwork and sense of belonging within the Greek language learning community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Assessment:<\/strong>&nbsp;Students\u2019 performance will be determined according to the achievement standard for Italian years 7 and 8, as outlined in the Australian Curriculum: Languages. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes. The types of assessments include&nbsp;Text Analysis (reading and listening), Text production (writing), Interaction (speaking), Reflection (in English).
