{"id":425,"date":"2017-05-09T14:17:11","date_gmt":"2017-05-09T04:47:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/?page_id=425"},"modified":"2026-07-24T11:56:55","modified_gmt":"2026-07-24T02:26:55","slug":"year-10-general-science","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/index.php\/year-10-general-science\/","title":{"rendered":"YEAR 10 GENERAL SCIENCE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Length: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Full Year<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Year 10 Science, students explain the processes that underpin heredity and genetic diversity and describe the evidence supporting the theory of evolution by natural selection.\u00a0They sequence key events in the origin and evolution of the universe and describe the supporting evidence for the big bang theory.\u00a0They describe trends in patterns of global climate change and identify causal factors.\u00a0They explain how Newton\u2019s laws describe motion and apply them to predict motion of objects in a system.\u00a0They explain patterns and trends in the periodic table and predict the products of reactions and the effect of changing reactant and reaction conditions.\u00a0Students analyse the importance of publication and peer review in the development of scientific knowledge and analyse the relationship between science, technologies and engineering.\u00a0They analyse the key factors that influence interactions between science and society.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Topics include:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DNA and Inheritance<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Natural Selection and Evolution<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Periodic Table<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chemical Reactions<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Forces and Motion.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Global Systems, including Climate Change<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Universe<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Assessment:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students\u2019 performance will be determined according to the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards.
