Students wishing to do Physics B must successfully complete Physics A.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Recommended background:<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Successful completion of Year 10 Science and Year 10 Mathematics at a B grade or higher, and the recommendation of their Year 10 Science teacher to enrol in Stage 1 Physics.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Content:<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Stage 1 students learn to interpret physical phenomena through a study of motion in two dimensions, electricity and magnetism, heat, energy, waves, and nuclear models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students apply their knowledge to solve problems and develop investigation skills through practical and other learning activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As students explore the interaction between science and society, they recognise that the knowledge and understanding of physics is constantly changing and increasing through the application of new ideas and technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The topics for Stage 1 Physics are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Energy and Heat<\/li><li>Electric Circuits<\/li><li>Waves<\/li><li>Linear Motion and Forces<\/li><li>Momentum<\/li><li>Nuclear Models and Radioactivity.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Assessment:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students\u2019 performance will be determined according to the subject\u2019s Performance Standards, as outlined by the SACE Board. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For a 10-credit subject, students undertake four summative assessment tasks including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>At least one practical investigation (i.e. experiment and report).<\/li><li>One investigation with a focus on science as a human endeavour.<\/li><li>At least one skills and applications task (i.e. test or similar assessment item).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Leads to:&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/index.php\/stage-2-physics\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"444\"><strong>Stage 2 Physics<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Level: Stage 1 SACE Credits: 10 per Semester Length: One Semester for each unit.
