{"id":436,"date":"2017-05-09T14:27:37","date_gmt":"2017-05-09T04:57:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/?page_id=436"},"modified":"2026-06-21T13:08:59","modified_gmt":"2026-06-21T03:38:59","slug":"stage-1-nutrition","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/index.php\/stage-1-nutrition\/","title":{"rendered":"STAGE 1 NUTRITION"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>SACE Credits: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10 credits<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Length: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One Semester<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two or three of the following topics will be studied by the class:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Macronutrients &amp; micronutrients, digestion &amp; metabolism.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nutrition through the lifecycle, and prevention of diet related disorders.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fresh versus processed foods, contamination and safe food handling<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sustainable food production, water issues in developing countries.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Psychology of food marketing and consumption choices.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indigenous Australians, traditional foods, contemporary changes.<\/span> <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Assessment:<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students\u2019 performance will be determined according to the subject\u2019s Performance Standards, as outlined by the SACE Board. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through four or five assessments in total. At least one of these will involve collaborative work.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Investigations Folio:<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At least one practical investigation which may include laboratory experiments<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One issues investigation of 1000 words (or the equivalent in multimedia form)<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Skills and Applications Tasks:<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At least one skills and application task which demonstrates knowledge and understanding of nutrition concepts.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students will also complete an end of semester exam.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Leads to: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/index.php\/stage-2-nutrition\/\">Stage 2 Nutrition<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1654\" height=\"796\" src=\"https:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Screenshot-2026-06-17-at-12.09.15\u202fpm.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7435\"\/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SACE Credits: 10 credits Length: One Semester Two or three of the following topics will be studied by the class: Macronutrients &amp; micronutrients, digestion &amp; metabolism.
