{"id":442,"date":"2017-05-09T14:39:20","date_gmt":"2017-05-09T05:09:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/?page_id=442"},"modified":"2026-06-21T22:52:01","modified_gmt":"2026-06-21T13:22:01","slug":"stage-2-chemistry","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/index.php\/stage-2-chemistry\/","title":{"rendered":"STAGE 2 CHEMISTRY"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>SACE Credits: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">20 credits<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Length: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Full Year<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Recommended background: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students must have successfully completed Chemistry A <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> B at Stage 1 with at least a B grade, and have the recommendation of their Stage 1 Chemistry teacher.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Content<\/b>: <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The topics for Stage 2 Chemistry are:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Topic 1: Monitoring the Environment<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Topic 2: Managing Chemical Processes<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Topic 3: Organic and Biological Chemistry<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Topic 4: Managing Resources.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students study all four topics. Through the study of these topics students will develop the ability to:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Design and conduct experiments<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Analyse and interpret data and information<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Relate chemical concepts to real life situations<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conduct research in an area of personal interest<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Work collaboratively<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Communicate in a variety of formats.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Assessment<\/b>: <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students\u2019 performance will be determined according to the subject\u2019s Performance Standards, as outlined by the SACE Board.
