Membership to the school rowing club is also a prerequisite.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Content:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This course is aimed at students with demonstrated skills and commitment in rowing who wish to spend time in further developing the skills and knowledge associated with sculling in quads, doubles and singles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Students will be given the opportunity to:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Develop rowing technique to a sound level of competency, efficiency and consistency<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gain knowledge and understanding of the major principles associated with correct technique and to be able to use this knowledge to correct skill error<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Develop knowledge of the fitness levels required. A light weights programme is incorporated into the fitness training<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Develop a high level of fitness to maintain correct technique<span class=\"\" style=\"display:block;clear:both;height: 0px;padding-top: 20px;border-top-width:0px;border-bottom-width:0px;\"><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Theory topics expand on concepts introduced at Year 8. Additional topics undertaken at Year 9 include training principles (FITT, SPORT, specificity), body systems, leadership\/teamwork, nutrition for rowers, and analysis of fitness, technique and races.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, students will participate in Health lessons based on the SHINE SA program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rowing as a subject requires students to be motivated academically and physically. All students in the course are expected to maintain an appropriate standard of behaviour and a positive attitude to school, sport and study.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Assessment:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students\u2019 performance will be determined according to the subject\u2019s Achievement Standards as outlined in the framework of the Australian Curriculum. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes. Students will be assessed in the following areas throughout each semester:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Practical skills &amp; performance fitness appraisals<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Commitment \/ attitude \/ effort \/ collaboration \/communication skills<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Written and multi-modal assessment tasks on topics covered<span class=\"\" style=\"display:block;clear:both;height: 0px;padding-top: 20px;border-top-width:0px;border-bottom-width:0px;\"><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Special Requirements: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unley High School PE\/Rowing uniform is to be worn to all practical and fitness lessons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Subject Fee: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A subject levy of $600 covers hire of buses, instructors and an equipment levy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Leads to:<\/b> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/index.php\/year-10-rowing-a\/\">Year 10 Rowing<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Level: Year 9 Length: Full Year Recommended background: Students are accepted into the course through a selection process.
