They investigate local, national, and global tourism; and explore tourism as a business. Students gain an understanding of the complex economic, social, cultural and environmental impacts of tourism. A student\u2019s understanding of the sustainable management of tourism is central to the subject.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An optional 4\u20135-night camp is offered as part this subject.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Assessment<\/b>: <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students\u2019 performance will be determined according to the subject\u2019s Performance Standards, as outlined by the SACE Board. Grades A+ to E- will be used for reporting purposes. Students understanding and skills will be assessed in a variety of tasks that may include:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>School Assessment&nbsp;<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two Folio tasks (20%) in which students interpret and critically analyse secondary sources of information in tourism contexts appropriate to the themes or topics being studied.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two Practical Activities (25%) in which research is undertaken beyond the classroom and involves the collection of information from primary sources.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An Individual Investigation (25%) which involves the independent identification, selection, analysis, and evaluation of primary and secondary sources of information about a tourism trend, development, and\/or issue, before making recommendations based on the findings.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><b>External Assessment<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Examination (30%) The exam is 2 hours and consists of a range of questions on several sources based on the content.
