{"id":528,"date":"2017-05-10T09:27:07","date_gmt":"2017-05-09T23:57:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/?page_id=528"},"modified":"2025-07-23T15:45:25","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T06:15:25","slug":"stage-2-modern-history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/index.php\/stage-2-modern-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Stage 2 Modern History"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Level: <\/strong>Stage 2<\/p>\n<p><strong>SACE Credits: <\/strong>20 credits<\/p>\n<p><strong>Length: <\/strong>Full Year<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recommended background:\u00a0<\/strong>Satisfactory completion of <a href=\"https:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/index.php\/stage-1-modern-history\/\"><strong>Stage 1 Modern History<\/strong><\/a><strong>, <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/index.php\/stage-1-society-and-culture\/\">Stage 1 Society &amp; Culture<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/index.php\/stage-1-english\/\">Stage 1 English<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>Content:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students will study two topics which may include: the United States of America (1914 \u2013 present)\u00a0<\/span><b>or<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Germany (1914 \u2013 1948)\u00a0<\/span><b>and<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0the Changing World Order (1945 \u2013 present).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the United States of America (1914 \u2013 present) topic, students will explore elements of USA\u2019s society, responses to the Great Depression, foreign policy and the emergence of the nation as a global superpower. Whilst the Germany (1914 \u2013 1948) topic will involve students exploring the failures of the Weimar Republic, the ways a Nazi dictatorship was established, the persecution of minorities and post-war Germany and the impact of World War Two on Germany.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They will also explore political ideologies and the origins, nature, course and consequences of the Cold War up to the present day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Assessment:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students\u2019 performance will be determined according to the subject\u2019s Performance Standards, as outlined by the SACE Board. Grades A+ to E- will be used for reporting purposes. Students understanding and skills will be assessed in a variety of tasks that include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">one individual Historical Study (20%, 2,000 words) into an aspect of the world since c.1750.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">five Historical Skills tasks (50%, 5,000 words) based on the United States\u00a0<\/span><b>or<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Germany topics. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These may include:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a museum display of significant objects related to the Cold War<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a historical interpretation response that compares and contrasts historian\u2019s explanations on the causes of the Cold War.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a historical report on a\u00a0key individual, policy or event that led to the end of the Cold War<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a sources analysis test on the Nazi Party\u2019s consolidation of powe<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an examination (30%) consisting of an essay on the Modern Nations topic and a generic sources analysis<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Level: Stage 2 SACE Credits: 20 credits Length: Full Year Recommended background:\u00a0Satisfactory completion of Stage 1 Modern History, Stage 1 Society &amp; Culture, Stage 1 English Content: Students will study two topics which may include: the United States of America (1914 \u2013 present)\u00a0or\u00a0Germany (1914 \u2013 1948)\u00a0and\u00a0the Changing World Order (1945 \u2013 present).
