{"id":579,"date":"2017-05-10T12:54:08","date_gmt":"2017-05-10T03:24:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/?page_id=579"},"modified":"2025-07-18T22:25:14","modified_gmt":"2025-07-18T12:55:14","slug":"year-9-woodwork","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/index.php\/year-9-woodwork\/","title":{"rendered":"Year 9 Woodwork"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Level: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Year 9<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Length:<\/b> One<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Semester<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Content:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This course focuses on basic carcase construction; glues, finishes and simple jigs; safe use of hand and power tools; safe use of fixed machinery including the drill press and band saw; and developing skills in technical drawing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students will develop their ability to follow a procedure, and will also have opportunities to construct products of their own design using the design process including; developing a brief, generating ideas through research, and refining designs through sketches.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Some possible projects include:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jewellery box<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wooden Speaker<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Storage Seat<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lolly dispenser<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cheese Board<span class=\"\" style=\"display:block;clear:both;height: 0px;padding-top: 20px;border-top-width:0px;border-bottom-width:0px;\"><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Assessment:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students\u2019 performance will be determined according to the subject\u2019s Achievement Standards as outlined in the framework of the Australian Curriculum.
