{"id":584,"date":"2017-05-10T12:57:09","date_gmt":"2017-05-10T03:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/?page_id=584"},"modified":"2026-07-06T21:07:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T11:37:08","slug":"year-9-metalwork","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/curric.uhs.sa.edu.au\/index.php\/year-9-metalwork\/","title":{"rendered":"YEAR 9 METALWORK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Length: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One Semester<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this course students will gain skills in working with metal in a variety of contexts, including;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sheet metal<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Working with mild steel<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oxy-acetylene and MIG welding<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Basic lathe processes including; facing, parallel turning, and taper turning<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Development of of CAD skills and use of CNC plasma cutting technology<span class=\"\" style=\"display:block;clear:both;height: 0px;padding-top: 20px;border-top-width:0px;border-bottom-width:0px;\"><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students will develop their ability to follow procedures and will also have opportunities to construct projects of their own design. They will learn to use the design process to develop a brief, generate ideas through research, and refine designs through sketches.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Projects could include;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tool box<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">desktop spinning toy<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">barbecue fork and spatula<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">folding camp shovel<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Assessment: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students\u2019 performance will be determined according to the subject\u2019s Achievement Standards as outlined in the framework of the Australian Curriculum.
