Content:

In Year 9 Art, the focus is to inspire and empower students in developing their personal aesthetic by engaging in a variety of practical skills, Art history movements, research and appreciation, as well as problem solving and decision making through independent and group activities. The units relate to traditional and contemporary media in Art, exploring various technical skills and ideas. Exploration of skills in available and up-to-date iPad applications will be studied, as part of the Middle School iPad program. Ceramics and/or printmaking will also be studied, depending on studio availability.

Students will:

  • Learn to structure art works by organising elements of the visual arts and applying appropriate skills, techniques and processes.
  • Research the world’s heritage in Visual Art and cultures, as a source of inspiration for articulating and expressing their inspiration.
  • Learn how to convey an abstract idea using appropriate language to describe and analyse works of Art.
  • Constructively criticise and self-evaluate their own progress.

Assessment:

Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Achievement Standards as outlined in the framework of the Australian Curriculum. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.

Special Requirements:

Students are required to supply an A3 Display Folio.
