Year 9 at Unley High School provides students with increasing opportunities to personalise their learning while continuing to build strong foundations across the core curriculum. All students undertake compulsory subjects including English (or English as an Additional Language), Mathematics, Science, and History, while also selecting subjects from a broad range of learning areas. Students choose from Languages, Humanities and Social Sciences, Health and Physical Education, Design and Technology, and The Arts, allowing them to explore their interests, strengths, and future pathways. Students select a total of 14 semesters of study, including reserve choices, as part of the course counselling and subject selection process in preparation for senior school pathways.
Year 9 also offers a range of specialised programs and enrichment opportunities. Students may continue studying a language, participate in the Special Interest Rowing program, or undertake learning through the Summit Program or French Bilingual Program. Elective offerings include subjects such as Digital Technologies, Robotics and Electronic Systems, Food and Nutrition, Visual Art, Design, Drama, Music, and Physical Education Extension. Students also transition into new PSI (Personal and Social Identity) groups in Year 9, supporting new connections and experiences as they continue to develop independence, self-awareness, and confidence as learners.
