Year 8 at Unley High School builds on the strong foundations established in Year 7, providing students with opportunities to further develop their knowledge, skills, and interests across a broad curriculum. All students continue to study the core subjects of English (or English as an Additional Language), Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS), and a Language other than English for the full year. Students continue with the same language studied in Year 7, choosing from Chinese, French, Greek or Italian, while students in the French Bilingual Program undertake specialised bilingual studies. Through their Personal and Social Identity (PSI) group, students continue learning alongside a consistent group of peers to support wellbeing, connection, and successful learning.
Alongside compulsory subjects, students personalise their learning through a range of semester and full-year electives across Health and Physical Education, Design and Technology, and The Arts. Students can choose from areas including Materials Technology, Food and Fibre Technology, Visual Arts, Drama, and Music, with Music students also able to access instrumental lessons through the school’s Instrumental Music program. Students may also participate in special interest pathways including Special Interest Rowing, the Summit Program, and the French Bilingual Program, providing opportunities for extension, specialised learning, and continued development of individual strengths and passions.
