Year 9 Art Metalwork

Content:

In this course students will gain skills in working in wrought iron and jewellery making. Students learn how to cut, bend, shape and work different materials. They will also learn how to join materials through a variety of methods.

Students will be introduced to the design process where they will learn to develop a brief, generate ideas through research, and refine their designs through sketches, culminating in the production of unique products.

Students will work with a range of materials. These include: mild steel, tinplate, copper, brass, nickel silver, aluminium and silver.

Items manufactured over the course may include;

  • Copper spoon
  • Copper rose
  • Various jewellery items
  • Candelabra

Assessment:

Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Achievement Standards as outlined in the framework of the Australian Curriculum. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.

Practical 70%
Theory 30%
