Content:
In Year 9 Design students learn about the Design Process and apply it to three areas of Design. These units may include Communication Design, incorporating Graphic Design and Typography, Product Design, including packaging, branding and prototype manufacturing, and Environmental Design, including Architecture and Landscape Design. Units covered explore the visual elements and principles, and analysing design works using visual arts language. Manual application and digital skills will be explored. A computer-based component may be included, which focuses on the use of the professional standard Adobe Suite Creative Cloud.
Students will:
- Create a folio of work that documents the entire design process relating to a design brief with the final stage resulting in a resolved practical piece
- Research, analyse and discuss work from contemporary and historical designers as they relate to the design brief
- Use technology to explore folio development and assist in research
- Create a product relating to a specific design brief
Assessment:
Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Achievement Standards as outlined in the framework of the Australian Curriculum. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.
Special Requirements:
Students are required to supply an A3 Plastic sleeved Display Folio.
