Content:
Geography enables students to consider our world today and how it has been shaped by natural and human forces. The course offers two depth studies:
- An exploration of the variety of different biomes and ecosystems across the globe. Students will consider what causes a global crisis, with a close look at poverty, food security and sustainability.
- An exploration of the ways that modern societies are connected throughout the world, considering the positive ways that culture, technology and tourism connects nations. Students will investigate the more controversial aspects of globalisation, through consumerism and overconsumption.
Students will develop an understanding of how they fit into the global community, and perhaps how they can influence positive change given the crises facing the world today.
Assessment:
Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Achievement Standards. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes. Students understanding and skills will be assessed in a variety of tasks that may include:
- Article or documentary exploring the causes and consequences of a global crisis.Article or documentary exploring the causes and consequences of a global crisis.
- A tourism pitch proposing a sustainable venture.
- An investigation and expose looking into a company fuelling overconsumption.
