Content:
Community Studies A is a timetabled subject which offers students the opportunity to develop their own project-based learning, community-based activity. Students decide the focus of their community activity, which begins from a point of personal interest, skill or knowledge. The course and assessment plan are individually negotiated with the student.
Students may complete up to 60 credits of Community Studies in the following areas;
- Arts and the Community
- Communication and the Community
- Foods and the Community
- Health, Recreation, and the Community
- Science, Technology, and the Community
- Work and the Community
Assessment:
Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through two types of assessment:
- Community Activity Folio (70%), which includes
- Contract of work
- Evidence to demonstrate participation in Community Activity
- Presentation of Community Activity (styles and audiences are flexible and designed to suit the individual student)
- Reflection (30% externally assessed))
Subject Cost: Nil (expect where a student chooses a Community Activity that may incur some personal expenses)
