Recommended Background: Ensemble is designed for students with a substantial background in practical music making and a focused interest in performance as a member of an ensemble.
Content:
Making Great Music – If you love the energy of performing with others, Ensemble Performance is your opportunity to collaborate, connect, and create something powerful as part of a musical group. You’ll work closely with other performers to develop tight, expressive, and engaging group performances. Along the way, you’ll refine your instrumental or vocal skills, deepen your understanding of musical styles and interpretation, and learn what it takes to contribute meaningfully to a shared sound.
Throughout the year, you’ll:
- Rehearse and perform regularly with your ensemble
- Explore a range of musical styles, genres, and group dynamics
- Strengthen your listening, timing, and communication skills
- Reflect on your individual role and your group’s performance development
Students will participate in a formal school ensemble:
- Concert Band 1
- Vocal Ensemble
- Percussion Ensemble
- String Ensemble
- Jazz Ensemble
- Rock Band 1 or 2
Music provides authentic experiences for students to practise and demonstrate the Unley High School values of respect, excellence, diversity and community.
This subject can be taken in conjunction with Stage 2 Music Solo Performance and/or Stage 2 Music Explorations
Pathways:

Assessment:
Students provide evidence of their learning through three assessments:
- School Based Assessments
AT1: Performance (30%)
AT 2: Performance and Discussion (40%) - External Assessment
AT 3: Performance Portfolio and Evaluation(30%)
Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Performance Standards, as outlined by the SACE Board. Grades A+ to E- will be used for reporting purposes.
Special Requirements:
Students must:
- Attend instrumental lessons with a qualified teacher
- Provide their own instrument or hire an instrument through the school’s hire program
