LEVEL: Stage 2
SACE Credits: 10 credits
LENGTH: Full Year – includes free instrumental tuition
Content:
Students develop and extend their practical music-making skills through performing works in an ensemble. They apply their musical understanding, skills, and techniques in refining and performing music.
Students analyse their repertoire, and critique strategies to rehearse and develop their performances, and contribute and collaborate as effective members of an ensemble.
They apply their knowledge and understanding of the style, structure, and conventions appropriate to the repertoire, in developing and refining their musical performances, their musical imagination, and their own ideas about and appreciation of music.
Students participate in a formal school or community-based ensemble e.g.:
- Concert Band
- Vocal Ensemble
- Drumline
- Orchestra
- Small Ensemble (two or more performers)
The three performance programs must include:
- works of contrasting character or an extended work with a number of contrasting sections
- works that allow students to extend their performance techniques
- a minimum of 6 to 8 minutes of repertoire each
Music provides opportunities for the development of students’ creativity, critical thinking, persistence, resilience, self-discipline, identity, connection and confidence. This is achieved through musical experiences that encourage collaboration and creative problem-solving, the acquisition of instrumental skills, knowledge and understanding, and the development of aesthetic awareness.
Music provides authentic experiences for students to practise and demonstrate the Unley High School values of respect, excellence, diversity and community.
