Students can choose Stage 2 PE OR Stage 2 Sport, Fitness and Recreation, but not both.
Recommended background: B or above in both Stage 1 Physical Education A and Stage 1 Physical Education B and a recommendation from subject teacher
Content:
In Physical Education, students investigate improvements in physical activity participation or performance. They collect a range of evidence and apply their understanding of movement concepts to evaluate aspects of their own or others’ physical activity and implement strategies to improve their performance and/or participation. The course uses sports and physical activity as a vehicle to develop understanding of key topics.
Students will:
- Participate in team sports and collect evidence to analyse the interplay of energy systems
- Collect evidence to identify an area of improvement in a sport, and developing and implementing plans and programs to see improvement
- Consider skill acquisition concepts and factors that affect learning such as practice and feedback when participating in physical activity
- Participate in a team sport and analyse the quality of movement concepts and strategies
- Collaborate with others to prepare for and participate in a sporting tournament, taking on coaching roles and collecting and evaluating evidence around participation, performance, collaboration and communication
- Use a variety of technology and pen and paper tools to collect and critically analyse data
Assessment:
Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Performance Standards, as outlined by the SACE Board. Grades A+ to E- will be used for reporting purposes.
Practical skills are not assessed. Students will provide evidence of their learning through four assessments. They will undertake:
- 2x Diagnostics tasks (30%)
- Energy systems
- Movement strategies analysis
- 1x Improvement Analysis task (40%)
- Skill or fitness factor improvement journey
- 1x Group Dynamics task (30% – externally assessed)
- Coaching
Special Requirements:
Unley High School PE uniform must be worn during all practical lessons.
