This one-semester course provides students with the opportunity to explore the dynamics of children and families in contemporary society. Students will investigate the role of families and cultures in supporting child development and relationships. The course covers various parenting styles and strategies to manage the personal, physical, and social changes children experience as they grow.

Key topics include understanding the stages of pregnancy, health and wellbeing during pregnancy, and the challenges and responsibilities associated with pregnancy. Students will also explore the nutritional needs of young children, including considerations for food allergies and intolerances. Additionally, the course includes an examination of toy safety standards, culminating in the construction of a toy suitable for preschool-aged children.

Students will develop skills in a variety of areas, including design, technologies, and general understanding. These skills will be applied through practical and theoretical tasks, enhancing creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

  • Robot Baby Experience: Engage in hands-on experience with a robot baby to understand infant care responsibilities

Assessment:

Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Achievement Standards as outlined in the framework of the Australian Curriculum. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.
