Year 10 Childhood Development

Content:

This is a one-semester course, providing the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in relation to children and families in our contemporary society.

Students will explore the role of families and cultures in supporting children, their development and relationships. They will examine parenting styles and evaluate strategies to manage personal, physical and social changes that occur as children grow. Students will develop an understanding of the stages of pregnancy and the health and wellbeing requirements during pregnancy. The concerns of teenage pregnancy and responsibilities of a teen parent will be examined as well as the nutritional needs of young children including food allergies and intolerances. Students will examine the safety requirements of toys and construct a soft toy suitable for a preschool age child.

Assessment:

Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Achievement Standards as outlined in the framework of the Australian Curriculum. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.
