Year 10 Fashion Design

LEVEL: Year 10

LENGTH: 1 Semester

Content:

The course content will give students the opportunity to design creative and functional projects using textiles of their choice. They will learn how to develop a made to measure sewing pattern, making custom adjustments to fit their needs and design ideas. They will examine areas of disadvantage in society and produce an item that enhances quality of life for individuals. Students will develop personalised textiles through the manipulation of fabric e.g. use of the laser cutter. 

Students will develop knowledge and skills through working within teams, using the design process, project management and fabric selection.

Additionally they will further their ability to work with technologies which may include:

  • Sewing machines
  • Overlockers
  • Illustrator, Photoshop, specialty apps 
  • Laser cutter 

Examples of projects may include;

  • Drawstring bag
  • Track pants 
  • Crochet blanket (community project)
  • Skirts

Students are responsible for purchasing the fabric and notion requirements for the garments.

Assessment: 

Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Achievement Standards as outlined in the framework of the Australian Curriculum. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.

Students will:

  • provide evidence of their understanding of the design process through theory and practical applications. This can be presented in written or multimodal form.
  • provide evidence of utilisation of technology.
