Stage 1 Fashion Design (Material Solutions)

Recommended background: Year 10 Textiles preferred but not essential.

Content:

Students will design and create products using fabric to meet a design brief. Students learn to analyse existing products for commercial techniques to help support the development of their own designs and will learn to draft and modify patterns in the production of their design. Fabrics are explored to determine the best selection. Students will evaluate their choices and decision making.

This course has a practical orientation with supporting investigation and an emphasis in design work. They will have the opportunity to negotiate their design and will receive guidance and support to achieve their goals.

Assessment Tasks:

Assessment Type 1: Specialised Skills Tasks – weighting 40 %

Skills task A – weighting 20%
Skills task B – weighting 20%

Assessment Type 2: Design Process and Product – weighting 60 %

Part 1- Design development 30%
Part 2- Solution realisation – weighting 30%

Subject fees: Students are responsible for purchasing the fabric and notion requirements for the garments.
