Stage 1 Photography B (Digital Communication Solutions)

LEVEL: Stage 1

SACE Credits: 10 credits for each semester

LENGTH: 1 or 2 Semesters

Recommended background: Stage 1 Photography A or Year 10 Photography preferred but not essential.

Content:

Students will continue to develop their understanding of fundamental skills and techniques associated with digital image capture, post-production techniques and editing. They will build greater confidence and experience operating DLR cameras in manual setting and continue to achieve the best photographic results through the manipulation of Shutter Speed, Aperture and ISO. They will also continue their skill development when utilising editing software such as Lightroom and Photoshop.

Photography B:

Photography B is structured to best support the interim skill development required before undertaking Stage 2 Photography and is best selected in tandem with Photography A for students wishing to study a full year of Photography in Year 11.

This program will focus on working with both natural and studio/artificial lighting and students will develop advanced skills in coordinating various lighting styles and setups, working in a studio setting, controlling required camera settings, and Bokeh effect using a range of photographic and lighting equipment suitable for product and portrait photography.

Assessment:

Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Performance Standards, as outlined by the SACE Board. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.

Tasks include:

  • Skills and Application tasks – 40%
  • Design Development (Folio) – 30%
  • Solution Realisation (Product) – 30%

 

Special requirements:

It is beneficial for students to have their own DSLR but school ones are provided. It is also highly recommended that students provide their own SD card and utilise the school’s offer of a full year Adobe Design Suite software subscription on students’ personal devices for $10 as well.
