Year 10 Design

LENGTH: One Semester or a Full Year
Recommended background: Completion of Year 9 Art and/or Year 9 Design is preferred.
Content:
This course will build on the skills developed in Year 9 Design and enable students to work through the design process in depth. Students will continue to explore manual skills in a variety of drawing, sketching, drafting and sculpting media. They will explore design from an historical context by undertaking a short Visual Study; a link to the SACE. Technology will be used to assist with students’ research and development and presentation of ideas via the Adobe Creative Suite.
Across the year, students will gain experience in at least two areas of design:
- Communication Design – Branding, Graphics, Packaging, Signage, Livery
- Environmental Design – Architecture, Landscape and Interior Design.
Design theory will include a Visual Study and other design tasks related to specific historical or contemporary Design topics, periods of design and/or analysis. Students intending to progress to Stage 1 Art and Stage 1 Design students are advised to study Design and/or Art for at least one semester in Year 10.
Assessment:
Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Achievement Standards as outlined in the framework of the Australian Curriculum. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.
Special Requirements:
Students are required to supply an A3 plastic sleeved Display Folio.
