Year 7 General Science

LEVEL: Year 7

LENGTH: Full Year

Content:

The Australian Curriculum: Science has three interrelated strands: science understanding, science as a human endeavour and science inquiry skills. The year 7 Science course aims to promote an interest in science and contemporary issues in science, society and the environment. Students explore the diversity of life on Earth and continue to develop their understanding of the role of classification in ordering and organising information. They consider the interaction between multiple forces when explaining changes in an object’s motion. They explore the notion of renewable and non-renewable resources and consider how this classification depends on the timescale considered. They investigate relationships in the Earth-sun-moon system and use models to predict and explain events.

Students develop their science inquiry skills through making accurate measurements and controlling variables to analyse cause and effect relationship. They explore and explain these relationships through appropriate representations and consider the role of science in decision making processes. Using their iPads, students collect data, analyse relationships, and communicate and present information in a variety of formats.

Assessment:

Student’s performance will be determined according to the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.

Student understanding and skills will be assessed in a variety of tasks including; practical reports; research and inquiry-based learning tasks; tests; and various forms of communication including essays, videos and oral presentations.
