Content:
In this course students will develop skills in both wrought iron and jewellery making.
Students will learn more advanced skills in working with metal, including cutting, bending and manipulating different materials, such as mild steel and aluminium. They will learn to join these materials through welding processes and mechanical fixings such as rivets.
Students will also develop their skills in creating jewellery. They will further their knowledge of working with brass, copper and nickel silver, and will work with materials as both sheet and wire.
Students will undertake a small range of set projects, and will design a majority of their projects working through the design process.
Items manufactured over the course may include:
- Table centre piece
- Wall hanging
- Jewellery set
Some costs may be incurred if students wish to vary projects.
Assessment:
Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Achievement Standards as outlined in the framework of the Australian Curriculum. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.
Practical: 70%
Theory: 30%
