Eligibility:
Students who have had more than 1 year’s education from the age of 5 years (pre-school, primary, secondary) in a Chinese-speaking country are not eligible to enrol in this program unless it can be demonstrated that special circumstances apply. Students must complete an eligibility form.
Content:
Students develop an understanding of how Chinese is used effectively and appropriately by using various combinations of the skills of listening, speaking, viewing, reading, and writing for a range of purposes in a variety of contexts. Students explore a range of prescribed themes and topics from the perspectives of diverse individuals and groups in the Chinese-speaking communities and in their own community.
The three prescribed themes include:
- The individual
- The Chinese-speaking communities
- The changing world.
Assessment:
Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Performance Standards, as outlined by the SACE Board. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.
Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:
- Interaction
- Text production
- Text analysis
- Investigation (comprises two components: an oral/written/multimodal response in Chinese and a reflective response in English).
