Content:
Through this course students will develop skills and knowledge to design and construct a furniture piece of their choice.
They will engage in the design process, presented through a folio, to develop concepts for their major product. They will communicate their designs through technical drawings using traditional methods, as well as Computer Aided Design drawing software.
They will develop skills in the safe and accurate use of portable and fixed power machinery including the Radial Arm Saw and Circular Saw.
Furniture Design & Construction A:
Furniture Design & Construction A will focus on solid carcase construction using traditional and modern joining and assembly fittings. Students will use manufactured board to produce flat packed furniture such as a bedside cabinet or TV unit of their own design.
Assessment:
Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Performance Standards, as outlined by the SACE Board. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.
Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:
Specialised Skills Task: 40%
Design Process Solution 60%
- Part 1 Investigation and Analysis and Design development
- Part 2 Solution realisation and Evaluation
Special Requirements: This course may be offered after school from 3.30 – 6.30pm.
Subject fees: Students are provided necessary materials however special and optional projects will require additional payment.
