LEVEL: Stage 1
SACE Credits: 10 credits
LENGTH: One Semester
Physical Education A is not a prerequisite for Physical Education B. Students can choose both Stage 1 PE A and B.
Recommended background: B or above for Year 10 Physical Education (Extension) and a recommendation from subject teacher
Content:
In Physical Education, students investigate improvements in physical activity participation or performance. They collect a range of evidence and apply their understanding of movement concepts to evaluate aspects of their own or others’ physical activity and implement strategies to improve their performance and/or participation. The course uses sports and physical activity as a vehicle to develop understanding of key topics.
Students will:
- Participate in traditional and modified versions of sports and collect evidence to evaluate factors that affect inclusivity and participation
- Work in groups to modify a traditional sport to improve inclusivity and/or performance
- Participate in team sports to consider and apply skill acquisition concepts that support practice and improvement of simple skills and movement concepts and strategies in the sport
- Participate in a sport, analyse a movement skill and identify what biomechanical changes would be needed to improve the performance of that skill
- Use a variety of technology and pen and paper tools to collect and critically analyse evidence about physical activity
Assessment:
Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Performance Standards, as outlined by the SACE Board. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.
Practical skills are not assessed. Students will provide evidence of their learning through three assessments. They will undertake:
- 1x Performance Improvement Task: Biomechanics (Part 1 worth 30%) and stages of learning for skill improvement (Part 2 worth 30%) (60% total)
- 1x Physical Activity Investigation: Modified vs traditional games (40%)
Special Requirements:
Unley High School PE uniform must be worn during all practical lessons.
