STAGE 1 CHINESE CONTINUERS

SACE credits: 20 credits

Length: Full year

Eligibility: Students who have had more than 1 year’s education from the age of 5 years (pre-school, primary, secondary) in a Chinese-speaking country are not eligible to enrol in this  program unless it can be demonstrated that special circumstances apply. Students must complete an eligibility form.

Students develop an understanding of how Chinese is used effectively and appropriately by using various combinations of the skills of listening, speaking, viewing, reading, and writing for a range of purposes in a variety of contexts. Students explore a range of prescribed themes and topics from the perspectives of diverse individuals and groups in the Chinese-speaking communities and in their own community.

The three prescribed themes include:

  • The individual
  • The Chinese-speaking communities
  • The changing world.

Assessment:

Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Performance Standards, as outlined by the SACE Board. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.

Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:

  • Interaction
  • Text production
  • Text analysis
  • Investigation (comprises two components: an oral/written/multimodal response in Chinese and a reflective response in English).
